Ashok Leyland is an Indian automobile manufacturer headquartered in Chennai and owned by the Hinduja Group. Founded in 1948, the company has evolved into a major player in the commercial vehicle industry with significant global presence. Ashok Leyland operates as the second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in India, the fourth largest bus manufacturer worldwide, and the nineteenth largest truck manufacturer globally. The company now operates ten manufacturing plants—nine in India and one international facility in the UAE. In FY2025, Ashok Leyland achieved record sales of 195,093 units, maintaining strong market positions across segments. The company holds over 30% market share in India’s medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment and has expanded its product range from 1-tonne to 55-tonne vehicles, including buses from 9 to 80 seats, defense vehicles, and industrial engines. Recent strategic initiatives include a ₹5,000 crore investment in battery manufacturing through partnership with CALB Group and expansion of its dealer network with over 50 new outlets planned for North India.
